Eleven Minutes

Writer: Paulo COHELO
Novel/Biography
Date 2003
“Once upon a time, there was a prostitute”, It was the first sentence that
attracts me to buy this fairy tale/ saga sex-discovery.

Maria is a small Brazilian girl with big dreams, like any other girl she wants to live in luxury and meet the Prince Charming. Her dreams took her to Switzerland with the hopes of better job but ends up working as a “prostitute” for the sake of money.
Her life turns upside down when she met Ralf, a famous painter, who had seen her different had discovered her soul before her body. A new chapter in her destiny started. With Ralf, she experienced the true love that she was dreaming about; she has given him all what she was learning from books and her work experience, and he offers her family life. Love never asks for permission neither has a price. [i]
This book is Maria’s daily journey from Rio de Janeiro and her self-discovery on how she chose between the dark life of “paid sex” and the power of love with her “Painter- Charming”. It is also a series of questions about “love and live” “soul and body”.
At the end of his book, Coelho explains the meaning of “11 minutes” which is the period needed in the sexual relation.
Once again, Paulo Coelho has proven that he is one of the contemporary writers who offer his readers a food for soul and many thoughts for discussions.

Finally, I would like mention that this novel was prohibited from selling in some Arabic countries, as it is discussing a Taboo, I would like to say” Never read a book by its cover”

[i] “Love is not to be found in someone else, but in ourselves; we simply awaken it.  But in order to do that, we need the other person.  The universe only makes sense when we have someone to share our feelings with
